Why volunteer

‘At the heart of what we do are a team of committed volunteers changing the lives of children and young people,’ – Jean Gordon, Head of Operations, Befriend a Child

Whether you are supporting a child as a befriender or mentor through our 1:1 befriending and mentoring programmes, helping them build skills and make friends at one of our group activities or playing a part in our fundraising team, you will be playing an active role in changing the life of a local child or young person.

We have several volunteering opportunities you can get involved in including becoming a befriender or mentor to a child or young person, getting involved in our weekly youth clubs or seasonal playscheme activities and becoming a fundraising volunteer at upcoming challenges and events.

There are a number of fantastic benefits to becoming a volunteer with Befriend a Child such as:

  • Access to training and upskilling opportunities
  • The chance to play an active role in shaping the future of a child or young person
  • Ongoing support from our expert team
  • The opportunity to build transferable skills for your future and career
