Volunteers' Week 2018 - April's Story

01st June 2018

To celebrate the start of Volunteers' Week we've got a Kiltwalk fundraising story from our volunteer April. The best of luck with your walk - look out for the Befriend a Child team during the day!

"Why did I choose to fundraise for Befriend a Child? I’ve seen first hand the positive effects it has on the children involved. Both of my sisters have been befriended due to losses in their lives and the changes I've seen in them are something else. To see them both so confident and outgoing, I knew it was something I wanted to help out with. Since being paired with Sarah, I’ve realised she’s not the only one to get something out of it. I do too. The bond I have with her is something I hope will continue for a long time. She’s such a good wee kid and to see her grow massively in confidence and be more outgoing is totally worth it. Plus I get to do stuff I usually wouldn’t like go to the trampoline park, go see kids films in the cinema and go tubing. I even liked tubing!

The kiltwalk was just a way I could raise money for Befriend a Child. Since running is not an option any more I thought a 26 mile walk would be fine!"

There is still time to support April!
