intandem Mentoring Co-ordinator recruitment

11th July 2019

At Befriend a Child we believe every child deserves a happy childhood and the best chance in life to succeed and thrive. We support children and young people growing up in difficult life circumstances across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. We help develop them into confident young adults to achieve their full potential. We do this by matching them with trained volunteers who deliver 1:1 befriending and mentoring services, which over time has a transformational effect.

We are looking to recruit a highly personable, enthusiastic and energetic individual to lead and develop our intandem mentoring project funded by the Scottish Government through Inspiring Scotland.

The intandem project supports young people aged 8-14 years who are looked after at home. This is when the young person is placed under a supervision order but remains in the family home.  Our young people are matched with trained mentors and spend 2-3 hours together once a week, doing fun things in their community. Mentors will support them to build a trusting, supportive and secure relationship. Having at least one long term relationship with a positive role-model is crucial for young people to thrive.

The intandem Mentoring Co-ordinator will recruit and train volunteer mentors, build strong links with referral partners and understand the needs of the young people who are using the service.  The postholder will be responsible for offering a high-level support service to volunteer mentors and will actively promote the welfare of the children and young people who use our service.

If you are inspired by our cause, can demonstrate success achieved in a similar role and have a passion for working with volunteers and children, we would love to hear from you.

Based in our office at 9 Bon Accord Square, this is a full-time fixed term post for one year with a possible extension depending on future funding.

Our working day is 9.00am – 4.30pm with occasional evening and weekend work in which we operate flexitime and toil.
