Local children’s charity Befriend a Child encourage Aberdeen residents to delve into the dark and grisly past of their city as they launch self-guided Halloween Ghost Tours of Aberdeen City Centre for the second year running.

The charity support children and young people growing up in difficult life circumstances in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire with one to one and group befriending and mentoring programmes and projects.

‘Our Ghost Tours proved to be very popular last year, and I think people were shocked to hear some of the sinister things that took place right here in the city centre. The tour is self-guided once again this year so individuals can take part at their leisure over the Halloween weekend’ – Tara Morrison, Fundraising and Marketing Co-ordinator

The tour takes approximately one hour to complete, starting at Castlegate and ending at His Majesty’s Theatre, and is packed full of stories about the city’s grisly history. You will hear tales of the goings on at the Old Gallows, the horrifying crimes that took place down on The Green and the ghosts that frequent there, and the story of The Little Drummer Boy. Prepare to be petrified as you see a side to the city you have never seen before.

The funds raised from the ghost tours will enable Befriend a Child to continue their befriending programme for local children growing up in difficult life circumstances. The charities programmes and projects have been a lifeline for the young people they support, especially during the past challenging year and a half.
