In 1975, two visionary local women, who were on the Children’s Panel, established Befriend a Child after recognising the vital need for children to have 1-2-1 support and positive role models in their lives. Fifty years later, we’re proud to continue their legacy, making a difference for children across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Over five decades, we’ve supported more than 5,500 children, helping them navigate challenging circumstances, build confidence, and reach their full potential. Through our befriending, mentoring, and group activity programmes, as well as our family support project, we’ve created opportunities for growth and brighter futures.
As we reflect on 50 years of creating joyful moments and lasting change, we’re excited to continue our mission into the next 50 years, reaching even more children and families who need us. At Befriend a Child, we believe every child deserves a happy childhood and the chance to thrive.
