Deciding on a challenge can be a difficult decision to make but the team at Befriend a Child has it covered. We have selected a range of third-party events to help get you started.
There is a huge variety of races and distances to choose from, so there is bound to be a challenge that suits you, your team and/or your family!
We’re excited to share that Befriend a Child is taking part in AFC Community Trust’s The Big Red 50 Day 5K Challenge from 11th May – 29th June 2026.
Participants are challenged to complete 5K of activity each day for 50 days – whether that’s walking, running, cycling, swimming or playing sport. The challenge is flexible and all about improving wellbeing while raising funds for great causes!
You can sign up for free and choose Befriend a Child as your charity, raising a minimum of £100 which will be split between us and AFCCT. Sign up today via AFCCT’S website
Take on the Edinburgh Marathon, choose Befriend a Child when you sign up, and turn every mile into a chance to make a difference for children and young people we support.
Whether you tackle the full marathon or half-marathon, your commitment will help raise vital funds, and we’ll cover your entry with minimum fundraising targets of £600 with £400 due by 24th April for the full marathon; £250 with £150 due by 24th April for the half marathon.

Join us for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland’s Walk the Loch, a beautiful, family-friendly walking challenge around the stunning Loch Leven Heritage Trail. Taking place on well-maintained, signposted paths, this event is perfect for all ages, even four-legged friends are welcome!
Take part for Befriend a Child, choose from 7K, 12K or 21K routes and enjoy a feel-good day out in nature while raising vital funds to support local children and young people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Entry is just £20, with minimum fundraising targets of £100, £125 or £150 depending on your chosen distance.
This challenge is a brilliant way to get active together and make a real difference to the children and young people we support.

The Aberdeen Kiltwalk is a fantastic charity walking event that sees thousands of people don their kilts or tartan and take to the streets to raise vital funds for causes close to their hearts. Whether tackling the Mighty Stride or the Wee Wander, every step helps make a difference.

Ride the North is making a comeback in 2026, bringing cyclists together to experience some of the most breathtaking routes across the North East. This scenic cycling event is as much about camaraderie as it is about the miles, making it ideal for both seasoned riders and keen beginners.
