No Child Should Miss Out

Growing up should be about making friends, trying new things, discovering what you enjoy, feeling supported and creating memories that last a lifetime. But for children and families facing difficult circumstances, some of these experiences can feel out of reach.

Across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, rising living costs and financial pressures can mean children miss out on things many of us might take for granted. It could be an activity, a day out, spending time with friends or simply the opportunity to try something new. Financial hardship and difficult family circumstances can affect a child’s confidence, wellbeing, relationships and sense of belonging. Over time, these barriers can have a lasting impact on how a child sees themselves and the opportunities they believe are available to them.

At Befriend a Child, we believe every child and young person deserves to feel supported, valued and included, whatever circumstances they are growing up in. We cannot solve poverty, but we can help make sure it does not define a child’s childhood. Through trusted relationships, practical support and positive experiences, we help children and young people build confidence, feel connected and have opportunities to simply be children. Sometimes, it can be something that seems small: having someone to talk to, trying an activity for the first time, enjoying a day out at the park, learning a new skill or having a trusted adult there to encourage them.

For a child, those moments can mean so much more.
