Information for Referrers

How does intandem work?

A dedicated Volunteer Co-ordinator will be there to recruit and train Volunteer Mentors who will then be matched to a child/young person. The children will also have a say in who they are being matched with. The Mentor will be there to listen and be someone who can relate to the often difficult life experiences these young people can children may have faced.

The commitment of the mentor is one year in which they will meet with the child/young person once a week for a few hours each time. All of our Mentors are screened and selected before being matched. The Volunteer Co-ordinator will monitor and evaluate the mentoring relationship to ensure positive outcomes are achieved and work closely with referrers along the way.

How can a Mentor help a Young Person?

By simply offering consistency and reliability. Mentoring primarily provides a young person with someone who will listen. All our mentors are volunteers so are there for no other reason than they care. The mentor relationship is built on trust and mutual respect. Once this has been established the mentor can support and encourage a young person and explore their opportunities beyond school to ensure they have a sustainable positive destination.
