New Big Kids Champions

Golf WinnerI-Aberdeen took the honours at the fourth Befriend a Child Big Kids Challenge Cup at Westhill Golf Club – on their debut!

Captained by John Argo, the four ball won a tight contest ahead of Grampian Electrical Services and Nu-Style with a Stableford score of 85.

As ever there must be a team in last place, with ABB 2 scoring a respectable 66 points which unfortunately proved not enough to avoid the booby prize.

“We were so lucky with the sunshine on the day and I think that really helped create a great atmosphere of competition and fun,” noted Chief Executive, Karen Farquhar.

“Westhill Golf Club were great hosts and it certainly seemed that all nine teams competing had an enjoyable time, while helping raise funds for our on-going work with vulnerable young people.”

As well as the coveted Big Kids Cup for the winners, there were also individual prizes for Nearest the Pin, and Straightest Drive sponsored by Castle Trophies.

In The Bank

CLYDESDALE bank hosted a successful fundraising network evening with a sporting theme, collecting £1600 for Befriend A Child in the process.

It was a ‘champion’ performance by the Queen’s Road branch as 50 attendees gathered for an evening of informal networking, refreshments and Champions League football.

ClydesdaleA raffle and auction was also held on the night with some fantastic prizes including luxury hampers, a signed Dundee Utd football shirt and a corporate package for Pittodrie.

“It was a very well organised event and the atmosphere was really positive and buzzing,” said Befriend A Child Fundraising Development Manager, Duncan Peter.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for me to raise the profile of Befriend A Child to a new audience, and it was also great to see a few existing supporters of the charity in the room.”
He added: “The £1600 raised on the night is a tremendous effort and will fund a new befriending relationship as a result.
“I can’t thank the staff of Clydesdale Bank enough for the efforts in organising the event and on the night.”

Record Breaking Ball!

Ball 2011The fourth annual Big Kid’s Ball at Ardoe House has raised more than £32,000 thanks to the generosity of local individuals and businesses.

More than 380 attendees enjoyed a three course meal, auction, table top raffle and entertainment by The Limit.
A wide range of sectors were represented at the event, with sponsors including Rigquip Drilling and Tayside Machinery.

Stars of the main auction included a tour of the House of Lords by Aberdeen’s very own Lord Stephen, and a round of golf with 1999 Open Championship winner Paul Lawrie.

“We are honestly overwhelmed by the total raised by the event, which is almost double what was achieved in 2010,” noted Chief Executive Karen Farquhar.
“There were so many examples of generosity in the room and we are so grateful that the on-going work of Befriend A Child clearly strikes a chord with the local community.”
