How much time would I need to commit to befriending?
We ask that befrienders commit to just two or three hours every fortnight. What is important however, is that the volunteer is there for the child when they say they will be. This is the basis of the befriending relationship and helps build trust.
Are there other ways I can help besides befriending?
Yes we are always looking for volunteers who can spare time to help with the fund-raising effort, or with admin duties. Please click on any of the above links to find out more.
Will training be provided?
Training for our volunteers is on-going throughout the year, with our team of volunteer co-ordinators available for face-to-face and telephone support. Child Protection issues and Drug Awareness are some of the topics covered at quarterly sessions.
What type of children does Befriend A Child help?
The children we help are referred to us for a wide variety of reasons, from parental drug and alcohol abuse, to social isolation and low self esteem. However they all have one thing in common: the very real need for an adult role model who they can trust and spend some quality time with.
What difference can my donation make?
Your donation, no matter how small, can make a difference to the life of a local child. Just £10 can ensure that Peter will receive a Christmas present, while £2300 can provide the recruitment, training and on-going support required for a one-year befriending relationship.
