"The Loon"
By S Age 11

Fan I first got my befriender (David) I thought – fits gan on? Just anither bloke in and oot oh the hoose, I wis used to that. But this een cum wee my Social Worker and I wis telt that he wouldn’t be biding in the hoose, but that he’d just cum and see me sumtimes.

Aye right – fitiver! He asked me far I winted to go next wik we him and I thot – I’ll show you min – so I said “the Carnies”. David jist looked at me and said – aye, ok. I didnae actually think he would cum, but he did, and for the first time ever, I got to go to the Carnies. It was so cool being able to tell the other kids at school that I’d been to the Carnies – they thought I was lying cos I niver get onything.

Next time he sed hi wis gan tae choose far we wint an I think we wint to the park – BORING! I thought, until David teen oot a fitba and we hid a kick aboot. Magic – neen o my ‘uncles’ had ever kicked the ba wee me.

David’s been ma pal for aboot 2 years now. I ca him Davie boy and he ca’s me The Loon but I think that he’s the een that’s the Loon! We’ve dun all sorts o things, like oot wi the dogs in the forrest, Pittodrie to watch the fitba, pictures, oot for supper (gads, he made me try a green bush thing wi my supper yeuck!) and even oot to Balmedie beach for a picnic. I’ve niver been that far fae my hoose afore! I’v hid a lot o laffs wi him – especially fan he fell flat on his face fan he was climbing up the shoot at the park!

The wifie in the office asked me fit I liked best aboot hayin a befriender – telt her that she shood get her ain een an find oot!
