Befriend A Child - Awards | |
The first ever Befriend A Child Champion Awards have been announced. Following 35 successful years of growth since the inception of the organisation, it was decided that annual awards for some of the charity’s most dedicated individuals should be instigated. The first five recipients of the treasured awards – featuring the familiar Befriend A Child logo – received their accolades at the third annual Befriend A Child Ball in February from the charity’s patron, the Lady Provost Sandra Stephen. “We recognise each and every person who donates their time and services to Befriend A Child is a valued volunteer and this made choosing the first five recipients very difficult,” commented Chief Executive Karen Farquhar. The first ever award was for Long Service and was presented to long standing committee member Keith Douglas, whose association stretches back 14 years. During that time, Keith has served as treasurer on the management committee and provided immeasurable support and guidance to the team. Grampian Electrical Service’s Scott Findlay was the recipient of the Corporate award for his dedication over the past three years, supplying both donations in kind and attending all of Befriend A Child’s corporate events. He is also the captain of the reigning 5-a-side football tournament champions! The Children’s Champion award was presented to Lesley Donaldson, a former befriender of seven years and a director on the management committee. An award for Behind The Scenes went to a couple – Susan and Ian Hay – who have contributed a power of work in the community, lending a hand at events and being the first to put their hand in their own pockets to support the charity’s work. The final award went to a staff member whose commitment and dedication to the expansion and growth of the charity is unquestionable. As Senior Volunteer Co-ordinator, the Champion of Champion award for Jean Gordon was a thoroughly deserved one.
